Estate sale questions, answered
Straight answers about how estate sales work with Root Estate Liquidators in the Sacramento area.
What does an estate liquidator do?
An estate liquidator sells the contents of a home for you. Root Estate Liquidators sorts, researches, prices, and stages your belongings, advertises the sale, runs it with our own staff, handles payments, takes care of what is left afterward, and sends you the proceeds with a final accounting.
What areas do you serve?
We are based in Gold River, CA and serve homes within about 30 minutes, including Sacramento, Rancho Cordova, Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Fair Oaks, Carmichael, Orangevale, Citrus Heights, Roseville, Granite Bay, Rocklin, Elk Grove, Arden-Arcade, East Sacramento, and nearby communities.
How long have you been in business?
Cheryl Root started Root Estate Liquidators over 30 years ago. It is still family owned and run by Cheryl and Keith Root.
When do you recommend an estate sale?
We help families who are downsizing, empty nesters, people relocating, families settling the estate of a loved one, and anyone who simply wants to clear out a home. If a house is full of belongings and you need it emptied, an estate sale is usually the most rewarding way to do it.
How much does an estate sale cost?
Every estate is different, so we review the details and our terms with you at a free consultation. There is no charge to have us walk through the home and talk about your options. Call (916) 217-5722 or send us a message to set one up.
How do I get started?
Call Cheryl at (916) 217-5722, email cheryl@rootestateliquidators.com, or fill out the form on our contact page. We will meet with you to discuss your needs, decide which items will be sold and which will be kept, and set a date for the sale.
Should I clean out or throw things away before you come?
Please don’t. Items that look like clutter are often the ones that sell. Leave everything in place until we have walked through the home together.
Can my family keep some items?
Yes. During the first consultation we decide together which items will be sold and which will stay with the family.
How do you price items?
We research your items and price them on market value, condition, and demand. Our goal is to bring you the highest return while keeping prices that bring buyers through the door.
What do you sell?
Just about everything in a home: furniture, antiques, jewelry, vehicles, collectibles, appliances, art, clothing, books, tools, yard and garden items, linens and textiles, decorative items, office supplies, records, musical instruments, comic books, and more.
How do you advertise the sale?
We create photo listings and marketing for every sale and promote it on estate sale websites, social media, and to our own list of loyal shoppers. Our sales regularly have lines out the door.
What is your process?
Our 10-step process: 1) initial consultation, 2) home staging, 3) pricing, 4) advertising and promotion, 5) set-up and security, 6) sale execution with our experienced team, 7) sales and payment management, 8) post-sale review, 9) cleanup and finalization, and 10) disbursement of your proceeds.
What happens to items that don’t sell?
After the sale we review the results with you and manage unsold items. At your request we arrange for removal or donation, and we give you any remaining inventory or donation records.
When and how do I get paid?
After the sale we provide a final accounting of sales and fees, then send you the proceeds.
Can you sell a car or other vehicle from the estate?
Yes. We sell vehicles as part of the estate along with the rest of the home’s contents.
For shoppers: do you take credit cards?
Yes. We accept credit cards along with other common payment methods at our sales.
For shoppers: will you help load large items?
Please bring your own help to load larger purchases. Our team stays focused on running the sale.
